Military Real Hero honored

F-94 Starfighter begins restoration
A Lockheed F-94 Starfighter is towed from its outdoor display at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, New York to the base's main hanger in preparation for extensive renovations. The aircraft was flown by the base's 174th Fighter Wing from 1954-57 as an all-weather interceptor. After its renovation, the F-94 will join the 174th's other historical aircraft in the base's planned Air Park. (photo taken November 2010)

F-94 Starfighter moves into position
The 174th Fighter Wing's F-94 Starfighter is towed past Wing headquarters on its way to a complete resortation and eventual inclusion in the Hancock Field Air Park. The aircraft was flown by the 174th from 1954-57 as part of a secret mission to see if the Air National Guard could perform air defense missions for the Air Force. F-94 aircraft and ground crews were placed on five-minute runway alert from dusk to dawn. The results were so successful that air defense became a permanent mission of the Air National Guard. CE squadron shout out during SU vs. Northern Iowa game
The 455th Civil Engineering (CE) Squadron based at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan will be "shouting out" during the Novemeber 12th Syracuse University vs. Northern Iowa basketball game. The 455th CE Squadron consists of airmen from the 174th Fighter Wing, Syracuse, NY and the 185th Fighter Wing from Sioux City, IA.

Deployed Airmen from the 174th Fighter Wing's Civil Engineering Squadron participate in a "Shout Out" video to be aired during the Novemeber 12th Syracuse University basketball game vs. the University of Northern Iowa. 1st Annual Hancock Field Family Readiness Program 5K Run
174th Fighter Wing (FW) Commander Col. Kevin Bradley crosses the finish line during the 1st Annual Hancock Field Family Readiness Program 5K Run. Col. Bradley was one of more then 200 runners who came out to support the 174th FW Family Readiness Program. Col. Bradley said, "We're here to support the Family Readiness Program, because the families play as big a supportive role in our mission as the unit members do. They received a security briefing from the Senior Intelligence Officer. They also viewed the MQ-9 Reaper and the Ground Control Station. The 174 Operations Support Flight
The 174 Operations Support Flight was first worn on June 14th 2010. The Torch in the middle of the patch symbolizes Lady Liberty's torch lighting the way for the Wing and the 138th Attack Squadron. The symbols are fixed on a background that symbolizes an aircraft attitude indicator with the blue side up...Flying Right. The Latin phrase Iunctus Viribus translates - "By United Efforts"
