F-94 Starfighter moves into position

The 174th Fighter Wing's F-94 Starfighter is towed past Wing headquarters on its way to a complete resortation and eventual inclusion in the Hancock Field Air Park. The aircraft was flown by the 174th from 1954-57 as part of a secret mission to see if the Air National Guard could perform air defense missions for the Air Force. F-94 aircraft and ground crews were placed on five-minute runway alert from dusk to dawn. The results were so successful that air defense became a permanent mission of the Air National Guard.
