Operation Iraqi Freedom
174th Fighter Wing member, MSgt John Malin, greets his daughter after returning home from Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit returned home after an 8-week deployment overseas. This is the last scheduled deployment for the unit using the F-16 jets. Transition to the Reaper, an unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV, is set to begin later this year.

Top leadership from the 174th Fighter Wing and the New York Air National Guard greet 174th unit members returning home from Operation Iraqi Freedom. 174th unit members deployed in early June to support OIF during an Air Expeditionary Force rotation. This is the last deployment that the unit will be flying F-16s. The unit will begin transitioning to a Reaper mission, an unmanned aerial vehicle.

Welcome Home!
Family members of the 174th Fighter Wing gather in front of the hanger, awaiting the return of their loved ones. The airmen and women of the 174th were deployed to South West Asia in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit was deployed in early June for combat deployment. This was the last scheduled F-16 deployment for the 174th Fighter Wing. The wing will begin transitioning to the Reaper mission, an unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV.

The Family Readiness Group at Hancock Field supplied the children with the paper and markers. The deployers are members of the 174th Fighter Wing, who who are returning from the unit's last deployment using F-16s.

Col. Tom Owens, 174th FW Acting Vice Commander receives the Bronze Star from Maj. Gen. NYS Flag
174th Fighter Wing members Lt. Col. Scott Brenton and MSgt. Scott Simpson display a New York State flag that was flown over Iraq during a combat mission. The flag will be presented to Congressman Jim Walsh by 174th Fighter Wing Commander Col. Kevin W. Bradley upon the unit’s return to Hancock Field within the next few weeks.

Scout performs Eagle Service Project on Hancock Field
Michael Pizzarri, a member of Scout Troop 220, Syracuse, and 174th Fighter Wing Commander,Col. Kevin W. Bradley, stands at the Bldg 174th cooling pond. Blabber Bear takes a Break
Blabber Bear takes a break near the PAR kit. PAR stands for Post Attack Recovery. This kit has items important to marking and identifying dangerous things such as explosives, missiles or pieces of bombs or rockets that may be in the area. Personnel are trained to do a quick search around the building or shelter for any suspicious items.
