Blabber Bear takes a break near the PAR kit. PAR stands for Post Attack Recovery. This kit has items important to marking and identifying dangerous things such as explosives, missiles or pieces of bombs or rockets that may be in the area. Personnel are trained to do a quick search around the building or shelter for any suspicious items.

Blabber Bear checks out the high tech avionics troubleshooting system with Technical Sergeant Steve Sobus. Steve is an Avionics specialist who fixes specific parts of the aircraft that deal with the planes ability to fly, find targets, communicate with others and protect itself from attack. Steve is part of a family of Sobus members of the unit and has been with the 174th for over 11 years.

Blabber Bear takes a rest in the Egress Seat of an F16 while Technical Sergeant Tony Waltermyer looks on. Sergeant Waltermyer is an Egress Systems Specialist in charge of the seat and canopy of the F-16. He makes sure both are in perfect working order for the safety and effectiveness of the pilot. He has over 22 years of military service with the Army and the Air Force.

Senior Master Sergeant McDonald
Blabber Bear borrows Senior Master Sergeant McDonald’s radio to call in aircraft status. Sergeant McDonald is a crewchief supervisor responsible for launching, recovering and fixing aircraft. He has been in the Air Force and Air National Guard for over 30 years. This is his seventh overseas contingency deployment since Desert Storm.

Senior Master Sergeant Simpson
Master Sergeant Simpson teaches Blabber Bear the importance of record keeping for the aircraft. Without good records, aircraft inspections and maintenance may get overlooked. Sergeant Simpson is a crewchief on the F16 fighter aircraft and has been taking care of aircraft for over 20 years. He is also the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron First Sergeant who helps the commander with many personnel programs. Scott has deployed to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Iraq numerous times with the 174th Fighter Wing.

Technical Sergeant Jason Renda
Technical Sergeant Jason Renda gets a hand inspecting the cockpit from Blabber Bear. Jason works on the ejection seat and the aircraft canopy of the F-16 fighter aircraft. Sergeant Renda transferred to the 174th from Springfield, Ohio in 2005. This is already Jason’s second overseas deployment with the 174th.

Steve Burbidge and Blabber Bear share a quiet moment in between phase work. Steve is a member of the phase section that accomplishes major inspections and overhaul of the F16 every 300 hours. He inspects, repairs and maintains the aircraft frame, landing gear and flight controls so that it is in excellent operating condition for another 300 hours of flying time.
