Lt. Col. Charles Hutson, Wing Inspector General with the 174th Attack Wing, received The Colonel Gouverneur Morris Citizen Soldier Award 3 May 2014 during a ceremony held here at Hancock Field.

The Colonel Gouverneur Morris Citizen Soldier Award recognizes members for support to the New York State organized militia, their local community or to the State of New York.

Hutson deployed to Afghanistan where he was assigned to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and served as chief of fiscal policy for the force reintegration cell. He worked directly with the Afghan government to ensure peace program funding was disbursed.

"It was a very atypical deployment," said Hutson. "It was also a very unique experience."

Hutson also earned a Bronze Star for his service during the deployment and said he would willingly go on the deployment again.

Though he enjoyed being on the deployment, Hutson mentioned that being away from family was the hardest part of the deployment for him.

Hutson is also involved in his local community, was on the Board of Directors for the Boys Scouts for 10 years and is now in charge of the Cub Scouts of Fabius-Pompey.

Hutson also organizes the Career Youth Explorer program here at Hancock Field.
