Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day Published May 16, 2008 By Terri Scanlin 174FW, Family Programs Coordinator Hancock Field Air National Guard Base Syracuse, NY -- Twenty children attended the "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day". This year's theme was "Making Choices for a Better World". We started the day off discussing what the children's dreams for the future were. They had some great visions - some wanted to own their own business, some wanted to work for a large corporation, and some wanted to join the military and take over their parent's job! We then discussed making goals so they could some day realize their dreams. After our discussion, we took a tour of the base. The tour included visits to the Range, the 274th ASOS, the Main Hangar, the Life Support Section, and the Fire Department. Lunch was spent with the military sponsor and was followed by a visit at the sponsor's workplace. T The children were given an assignment to interview the sponsor about their job. They also asked them about goals they had when they were younger. We then gathered back together in the afternoon to discuss their assignment. We also did a team building activity. Each child was given a task in building ice cream sundaes. It was a fun and sticky job, but in the end the sundaes were delicious and enjoyed by all. At the end of the day, each child was presented with a certificate of completion and some special gifts.
