Hancock Field Member Places in the President's 100 Published Sept. 12, 2010 By Capt. Anthony L. Bucci 174th Fighter Wing, Public Affairs Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, NY -- A member of the 174th Fighter Wing placed in the top 100 at the President's 100 match, for this shooter of the Hancock Field Combat Rifle Team winning in competition has become a recurring theme. Technical Sgt. Chris Ashley placed in the top 100 of the President's 100 award; he finished with a score of 287-8, which put him in 86th place out of more than 1,100 people who competed in the match. "I was very happy with my performance this year because the past few years I kept making dumb mistakes that kept me from placing in the Top 100," said Technical Sgt. Chris Ashley The President's 100 was held from the 1st to the 7th of August at the Camp Perry National Matches held at Camp Perry Ohio. Technical Sgt. Ashley also won for good measure a silver medal in the National Trophy Individual, a gold medal in the M1 Carbine match, and a bronze medal in the Springfield 03 match. He is already making plans for next and shared his goal with me, "Next year I want to place in the Top 20, that is my goal," said Ashley. Considering Technical Sgt. Ashley's determination, dedication and skill I have no doubt he will place in the Top 20 and I am already starting to write an article telling all about it. The President's Hundred Tab, a full-color embroidered tab of yellow with the word "President's Hundred" centered in high green letters, is a badge awarded by the National Rifle Association to the 100 top-scoring military and civilian shooters in the President's Pistol and President's Rifle Matches. It is currently one of four permanent individual skill/marksmanship tabs authorized for wear by the U.S. Army. In order of seniority, they are the President's Hundred Tab, the Special Forces Tab, the Ranger Tab, and the Sapper Tab. Only three may be worn at one time.
