How fitting that the day after September 11th wing members along with their family and friends gathered at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base for the yearly Family Day celebration.

On September 11th 2001 our country was attacked and the operational tempo placed on the military, specifically on the Air National Guard and the 174th Fighter Wing has increased dramatically.

"Without the support of our families, friends, employers and community the men and women of Hancock Field would not be able to perform their military job effectively," said Col Kevin W. Bradley, 174th Fighter Wing Commander.

On September 12th Hancock Field held its annual Family Day activities an event that has been happening for nearly 20 years and with each passing year has gotten bigger and better.

This is an important day for Hancock Field and its leadership to show their appreciation and 'Thanks' to the families and friends who are critical in helping the unit achieve their mission.

Family day is an annual event that gives the men and women of Hancock Field the opportunity to take their family and friends to work while enjoying a day filled with activities, fun and food.

The children enjoyed Humvee rides after getting their faces painted with camouflage paint courtesy of Hancock Field members. For the younger children there was a bouncer as well as a gummy worm contest courtesy of the Base Exchange.

Children and adults enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, popcorn as well as ice cream and cotton candy, there were plenty of smiles all around even with less than perfect weather.

There were also informational table's set-up with representatives from Military One Source, Veterans Outreach and Health and Wellness to name just a few.

"This day is all about 'Thanking' our families and friends for the support they give the members of Hancock Field, without them they could not perform their jobs effectively," said Mrs. Terri Scanlin, Hancock Field Family Programs.
