Duane Morgan 174th Attack Wing Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania -- The 174th Attack Wing has been using this site for readiness and training for over a decade. One unit that is taking advantage of the training site is the 174th Attacks Wing’s Civil Engineering (CE) squadron. “One of the great things about the site is that they have the capability for individual afsc’s within CE to get extra training,” said Master Sgt. Bryan Thuman, CE Superintendent. “The equipment that we need may not be here at Hancock Field so we’re able to go to The Gap and get that training.” Each airman in CE will eventually make a trip to The Gap to receive training. Everyone from electricians to Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) specialists will get a chance to train there. 80% of airmen will train there within three years of joining the squadron. “We’ve had airmen who’ve arrived at the squadron and four days later have been on their way to go train at The Gap,” said Thuman. Many of the airmen who have specific jobs in CE also are in that same field in their civilian lives, which makes solving problem at lot less difficult. “Many of our guardsmen can use the knowledge that they’ve learned here and apply that to their civilian jobs and vice versa,” said Thuman. With this training comes the opportunity for airmen in the squadron to form lasting bonds. “I was really excited to get to learn from the airmen in my shop as well as from other shops,” said Airman Eric Bryant, HVAC specialist. “The most exciting thing for me was kicking back after training and getting to know everyone around the unit.”
