A fallen Marine inspires real heroes
U.S. Air Force Col. Tim Lunderman, Commander of the 222nd Command and Control Squadron (CACS), displays his newly received “Real Heroes” award presented by the Central New York chapter of The American Red Cross. Lunderman is joined by fellow recipients Rick and Lorie Schneider. The three received the award on December 7, 2011 at the OnCenter in Syracuse NY during the annual “Real Heroes Breakfast” put on by The American Red Cross. The event honors community members who have gone above and beyond to save the life of someone else. On July 10th, 2011 Mr. and Mrs. Schneider were delivering family members to Hancock Field International Airport when they saw Lunderman assisting a woman who had collapsed in the Airport a few minutes earlier. Lunderman had witnessed the woman falling while he was standing in line and had immediately responded. The three heroes worked to assist this woman without thinking twice and her life was saved do to their quick response and team effort. After the event concluded Lunderman and the Schneider’s realized that this was not their first meeting. Lunderman had attended the funeral of their son, Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider of the U.S. Marine Corps, just two days earlier. Cpl. Schneider had died serving his Country on June 30, 2011 and all three heroes agree that there response to this citizen in need was in the spirit of and a true honor to Cpl. Schneider who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to the citizens of this great country. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Jeremy M. Call/Released)
