Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, NY --
Columbia College has become a fixture at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, however this affiliation came dangerously close to coming to an end this past year, fortunately all parties involved were able to come to an agreement.
"Fortunately Columbia College was able to sign a new lease agreement that runs through November 30, 2014, working with the U. S. Air Force, Air National Guard and the 174th Fighter Wing, specifically Col. Bradley and Col. Evans, and several elected public officials, including United States Senator Charles Schumer, we were able to get this agreement signed. We are very grateful for their dedication and collaborative efforts", said Dr. Scott Vinciguerra, Director, Columbia College at Hancock Field.
Dr. Vinciguerra assumed the responsibility as the Director of Columbia College for Hancock Field on August 15th. He spent his first 100 days on the job by asking questions and trying to assimilate this feedback into tangible data that would ensure Columbia College's smooth transition. During this time he was fully engaged with base and higher headquarters leadership in securing the future of Columbia College on Hancock Field, while developing the core principles of academic excellence, customer service, community engagement and communication.
"Our goal here at Columbia College on Hancock Field is to make sure we deliver the utmost quality of instruction, academic rigor and student services", said Vinciguerra.
Temporarily Columbia College is located in the former "Engine Shop" building, however a modular building is being constructed that will be ready for occupancy by March 2012. When the new building is ready Columbia College will host 30 classes in their newly constructed building, while continuing to offer more than 600 classes on-line. Typically they host five sessions per year with each session lasting eight weeks providing coeducational liberal arts and sciences education for associate, bachelor's and master's degrees on campus and online.
For nearly 40 years, Columbia College has been helping military personnel, their family members and DoD civilians earn a college degree while serving their country.
Columbia College was founded in 1851 and has been helping students advance their lives through higher education for more than 150 years. As a private, non-profit, coeducational liberal arts and sciences college, the college takes pride in its small classes, experienced faculty and quality educational programs.
