Lt. Col. MaryJo Timpano Says Goodbye

Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, NY --  On May 6, 2012, Lt. Col. MaryJo Timpano formally retired from the United States Air Force in a ceremony officiated by Col. Charles Dorsey, 174th Fighter Wing Vice Commander at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base, Syracuse, NY.
 
Lt. Colonel Timpano served as the Director of Staff and Wing Executive Officer for the 174 FW and greatly aided the smooth and successful conversion of the wing from the F-16 Fighting Falcon to the MQ-9 Reaper. She efficiently coordinated numerous staff actions and personnel moves generated by the new mission.

"I am grateful for the opportunities that the Air Force, Air National Guard and specifically the 174th Fighter Wing have given me, as well as all of the professional people I have met throughout my career," said Timpano. "I am especially pleased to have my family, friends and comrades here with me today to share in this very memorable and proud moment in my life," said Timpano.

She was recently recognized by Syracuse University as an "Unsung Hero" in the community adult category for her tireless efforts in helping those who are in need at Hancock Field and throughout Syracuse community. Lt. Col. Timpano is a member of the Vera House Board of Directors and teaches the skills necessary to end sexual and domestic violence.

Lt. Col. Timpano served as the SARC, sexual assault response coordinator, for the men and women of Hancock Field Air National Guard Base; this includes training members of the unit on the prevention of sexual assault.  Additionally, she was the point of contact for all Hancock Field members who are victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse, supervises victim advocates and directly responds and advocates for victims.

In December 2011, Lt. Col. Timpano led the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Hancock Field Joint Deployment Health and Wellness Center, for which she served as director. The J-HAWC, a first in the Air National Guard, provides resources to address the physical, psychological, spiritual and family health of service members and their families.

Lt. Col. Timpano earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Developmental Psychology from the State University of New York at Brockport. She is currently a Master's degree candidate is psychology with a health and wellness specialization.

The audience was filled with political, military leaders, family, friends and colleagues who gathered to congratulate Lt. Col. Timpano on her 27 years of service to her country and to wish her the best of luck in the next chapter of her life.
